The outgoing vice president and 2024 flagbearer of the new patriotic party (NPP), Dr. Mahmoud Bawumiah has stated that, the outgoing administration of new patriotic party will remain a responsible opposition against the next NDC government to ensure prudent administration of government business while in opposition.
Addressing the nation to concede defeat in the just ended general election in Ghana, the outgoing vice president reiterated that, his office and the entire NPP machinery, shall hold the new NDC government accountable on their stewardship to the country in all sphere of the economy.
He commended the NDC and the incoming president of the republic, John Dramani Mahama, for the landslide victory against him and the new patriotic party. Urging them to work assiduously to make sure there is continuity in government business.
Although, the electoral commission of Ghana is yet to make any former declaration of the collated results across regions, the NDC’s landslide victory has compelled the NPP and Dr. Bawumiah to concede defeat ahead of the declaration.
He has stated that, considering the result at their disposal and the tension in the country, the honorable thing must be done to ensure the stability of the country. Hence, he has called the incoming president John Dramani Mahama, to concede defeat and he is doing it also in the face of the general public.
The outgoing vice president in an emotional address to party sympathizers and citizenry, appreciated all those who voted for him and those who failed to vote for him, charging all citizenry to work together to ensure the country remain on the path of progress and economic transformation.
Meanwhile, the outgoing government is expected to work together with the incoming government to form a smooth transitional team ahead of the swearing in of the new administration, scheduled for 7th January 2025 at the black star square.
Nonetheless, the electoral commission is expected by law, to make a formal declaration of winners of the election after successful collation of results, even though opponent had conceded defeat. ………
