The attorney general of the republic of Ghana has been accused of engaging in another unethical judicial practices by leaking confidential documents to opposition lawyers to IMPEDE matters against the president in the Controversial LGBTQI plus case before the supreme court of Ghana.
In a mildly heated debate on good morning Ghana on metro tv with the Host Randy Abbey on Thursday morning , member of parliament for Ningo Prampram Sam Nartey George made a revealing allegations against the current attorney general Godfred Dame, for playing a double standards in a pending case of the LGBTQI+.
According to Sam George, Godfred Dame during a committee level engagement disclosed that, he is fully in support of the LGBTQI+ and its current state and shape and as such would advise the president at any giving time to sign it into law. However, he is working against the bill covertly by disclosing importantly confidential documents to the lawyers of the plaintiff when he is also a respondent to the case.
speaking on national televsion, the member of parliament for Ningo Prampram stated, that despite the double standards, the AG is in full support of the bill in its current state and shape.
” He is in full support of the bill. in fact Godfred Dame delayed this bill, i know i haven’t said this before. he delayed this bill in parliament for one year. He was expected to present his memo of response on 15th of October 2022 . Godfred Dame submitted his memo on 18th of October 2023. we had to wait for him one year. one year we waited for Godfred Dame. And when he came we showed him all that the committee did and the responses and addressed all of those issues. at the meeting i asked a question. when i asked him a question the chairman of the committee told him not to respond because is a leading question and that i was up to mischief. And Godfred Dame responded to the chairman that, “no! is not a leading question and that i would want to respond. and i want sam George to quote me in the public”.
“my question to him was so AG are you comfortable with the Bill in its current shape and form with all the amendments we made, such that, your advise to his excellency the president will be to sign the bill into law if parliament passes it. Because now you are happy with it”
“he said, Same George, read my lips, your Bill is a good addition to our legal jurisprudence. Because issues in the criminal offences act that deals with homosexuality are actually an affront of the constitution, the don’t deal with females, they only deal with males and so your bill actually levels the playing field and so I am in full support of your bill, and my advise to the president will be to accent to it with alacrity, because Sam George, i support you” he stated
” so go and call the media and tell them” . Because in the previous week I criticized him for delaying the bill. Godfred Dame said these on record”
” so am saying to you, still in Jakpa case, he is speaking from both sides of his mouth. where in one breath, he says he support the bill, in another breath, he advises the president not to sign the bill and now is in court acting as an impediment and leaking documents. to Amanda Odooi and Richard Dela sky. such despicable character and behavior should not be found as an office holder to such an high office of attorney general ” He alleges.
meanwhile, the host, Randy Abbey called on him to retract the aspect of personalization in the persons of the Attorney general for describing him as despicable and of negative behavior, which he hesitantly did.
nonetheless, the case of the LGBTQ+I is adjourned until 17th of July.
