Concern resident, Ghanaian patriot and philanthropy of Ayi Mensah, has hinted on infrastructural deficit at Ayi Mensah police station in the GA east district under the greater Accra regional command.
According to Julius Atsu Yawlui popularly known as Jaymogabi, he was hinted by a source within the police station about the lack of infrastructure at the station. stressing that, some divisions such as the MTTD, DOVVSU are not attached to the station, thereby compelling several referrals to neighbouring stations within the district.
He further stated that, the police station is currently operating only male cells while reported cases involving detained female culprits are sent to kuotam station.
Dovvsu and other relative cases are redirected to Adenta housing down as he disclosed to millennium news.
“The Ayi Mensah Police station doesn’t have the MTTD office, female cell, DOVSU and many more. As a community youth leader I am appealing to the public especially, all the benevolent organisations, Despite group of companies etc to help put a building to make their service easier and successful” he asserted.
Julius also mentioned about water concerns facing the kuotam police station under Ayi Mensah, as he stated that, the station appealed to him to come to their aid to help rectify the water crisis the station is battling with over the years.
“As a matter of fact one of the police stations which name is kuotam police station under Ayi Mensah are having water problems. They have pointed to me a distance where the main pipe line is and they want me to assist to connect the pipe to the police station as I have already been assisting them” he added.
Mr Jaymogabi also wants the various police divisions within the district to desist from detaining motorbikes for more than two weeks. According to him, most of these detentions are unlawfully done and are also used to collect monies from riders illegally.
He explained some concerns some riders shared with him and the demands the officers made from said riders.
“I saw several motor bikes which were parked at the police station as if they are in garage for sale. In front of me two motorbikes were released to the owners and when I got closer to the owners and asked about their offences, all that they told me was they have paid ghc 150.00 each to the police as bribe for not having number plate and the other person’s tail lights are not working”. he stated.
He said on the 13th of january there was an police operation in His community and most of the area’s youth were arrested, upon his visit at the station to have a first hand information on the reason for their arrest and detention, he saw unusual things at the station which includes backdoor dealings by some police officers and also the poor nature of the station where district security operation is carried.
He is therefore calling for an improved policing system in the district and the country at large.
“on Thursday evening 13th January, 2022 which some of my community members were arrested and I went to the station because of my position as a community youth leader. But what I saw at the police station is not encouraging and I can’t swallow it or let it go”.
