”Is Jesus born at the kotoka international airport to warrant spending whooping GHC 84k on Christmas tree just for a few day’s fantasy” words of Mahdi Gibrill on monies expended by Ghana airport company to procure xmas tree.
Former deputy national organizer and national organizer hopeful for the larger opposition Ghanaian political movement, the national democratic congress (NDC), Mahdi Gibrill, slams government over purchase of 4 Christmas trees allegedly costing the country some GHC 84, 000.00, in the era of pandemic, amidst complain by government over economic difficulties.
When the news broke on social media, the chairman for the Ghana airport company and host of good evening Ghana, Mr. Paul Adom Otchere, Debunks the allegations and insisted the cost expended on the four units Christmas trees cost GHC 34,000.00 contrary to media assertion of GHC 84k.
However, Mahdi Gibrill could not comprehend motive behind procuring just 4 units of Christmas tree at a cost even suggested by the chairman of the GHAC. Most especially in this era of new normal, where all sectors of the economy is deeply affected.
‘’even if the tree cost 500 cedi, the question we ask is, what is the relevance of the tree to the people who patronize the airport’’ He quizzed.
He added that, ‘’ would Paul Adom expended less of such an amount for such a wasteful procurement, if the money was to come out from his personal pocket’’.
The former deputy national organizer also reiterated that, government of Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo is briskly making attempt to impose certain E- levy and other financial obligations on Ghanaians, with an excuse of no money to carry out government policies and projects, yet, supervises financial wastefulness in His administration.
He further asked whether Ghana airport company would carry out same tradition during festive season of other religious denominations since the country is not made up of only Christians.
‘’ in just about 3 months time, the muslims will also be celebrating their festivals, will paul and the Ghana airport company go and procure moon or symbols to represent the occasion and place it at the airport?’’
He expressed surprised over sudden change of stance over the thought of NPP government about the terminal three project, stating that;
‘’ these are the people who claimed the terminal three is a photoshop, and what is the sense in procuring a tree to decorate a photoshop project’’ he mocked.
Nonetheless, Many Ghanaians frowned at the government over superintending a wasteful regime amidst difficulties some of his economic policies has plunged the country into.
Several stern measures have been imposed on Ghanaian since the pandemic, to help government come out from what he claims to be economic shocks. However, the spend-rift of government does not support his pandemic claims.
Many Ghanaian complained bitterly on how they struggled to celebrate the season with their families, due to lack of money in the system amidst hike in price of commodities in the market. yet, government and his appointees lavishly enjoyed the season with their family with less or no remorse for the pains of ordinary Ghanaian.
Mr Paul also refute claims that, workers not paid their December salaries adding that, ” it is also untrue the staff of the company haven’t been paid their December salaries.
However, Mahdi would have nothing to do with that, as he insist NPP government is known for their misleading stories of propaganda. hence, claims of paying airport staff for their December salary, cannot be believed.
