Political science lecturer, specialized in politics and development, at Kwame Nkrumah university of science and technology, Dr Mohammed Abass entreats political actors to enhance existing infrastructures to the collective betterment of the country.

In a side interview with Millennium news, the lecturer debunked claims of infrastructural gap being the main challenge of Ghana’s development, as being speculated by other school of thought.

‘’ is a lie if we should blame the current problems of Ghana to infrastructure or institutions’’ he stressed.

He added that, ‘’ even the current available structures if we should use them according to the purpose for which they are established, we can optimise its potential benefits for such long period of time’’.

The lecturer further hinted that, across globe, there has never been something like a perfect structure or adequate to be précised. However, all structures have essential impacts on citizenry, when they are allowed to function according to their stipulated purposes.

‘’ The incessant complain in the country seemingly over everything, if we should allow available structures to function, it will mitigate it’’ he added.

He said ‘’there is nowhere in history where one can say, this structure is excellent or adequate’’

Arguing that, every day, system witness’s dynamism, just as people see changes in their livelihood. Hence, there is the need for consistent review of structures.

He said when current structures are sufficiently used, that is when it will inform authorities on possible expansions or creating new ones.

Mr. Abass disclosed that, political behaviour of people in authority, is the major challenge of the country, contrary to structural speculations.

‘’ Is not new to you, any day you tune your radio or tv, all you will hear is political misconduct either from political parties or government in power, this cannot be compared with infrastructure. The problem is us. We are the problem not the structure’’ he bemoaned.

He said our political behaviour does not match the systemic agenda to propel development in the country. And until we refine our political way of reasoning, we shall not get the needed development.

The lecturer stressed that, if we do not change our perspective or ensure paradigm shift in our reasoning, the woes of the country will deepen beyond repairs.

Dr. Abass added that one critical proper perspective we must ensure, is to know the best practices in dealing with matters of common interest when they emerge.

‘’ raining abuses and escalating fury during misunderstanding, being it political or governmental, instead of using appropriate means to finding collective way of addressing our common challenges, does not denote proper perspective which could propel development’’ he said.

‘’really, if we seek to make headway in our political and structural fortune, then, we must start with changing our perspectives’’

He said we can develop a system where even when something Is negative, we can be constructive enough to bring it to our advantage. Instead of waiting for the downfall of an opponent to make a case out of it when the system is rather suffering.

‘’ Is about time we all acted maturely and not engage in practices that would ruin our collective efforts for development’’ he concluded.
