NDC caucus of Ghanaian parliament slams government over another ministry believed to be “state owned enterprise ministry”.

Earlier on the floor of parliament, the leader of the caucus, honorable Haruna Iddrissu rebuked decision by government to introduce the minister of state at the presidency in charge of state enterprises. Other members of the NDC did same subsequently on various national media and platforms.

Member of Parliament for north Tongu on metro television in Ghana, Okudzeto Ablakwa expressed concerns on how this newly intended ministry would create unnecessary bureaucracy in the works of government and would also bring about thurf battle among institutions of authorities. He said,

“This idea of getting ministry of state in charge of state enterprise when you have ministry of trade and industry is needless. This duplicate of bureaucracy is needless”

The Member of Parliament cited already existing authorities responsible for state enterprises; therefore, creating another office would be duplication of task.

He said, the state governance authority was created just two years ago in 2019 and already existing state enterprise commission merger is doing just great job in ensuring productivity within various state enterprises. So creating another ministry is needless, he insisted.

If we recall, in this government’s first legal term, similar mistakes of duplications were made and yet little or no results were achieved, that gave him traumatic experience in the 2020 general election.

In an attempt to undo the mistake of the past, the government is likely to repeat same by creation of some duplications such as the, ministry of state enterprise.

Also, in a long executive press statement signed by the secretary at the presidency, some previous scrubbed ministries will be operational under office of the president in different form though not as ministries but agencies.

The supposed second phase of the Nana Addo led government may seem lean on the face of sector ministries, but it will still be as large as ever at the presidency. This may still place pressure on the national budget.
