Ruling new patriotic party (NPP) has endorsed 74 year old sitting president of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, his vice, Dr. Mahmoudu Bawumiah, to run for the flag bearer-ship of party ahead of the 2020 general election.

President Akufo-Addo on Saturday, June 27, 2020, was acclaimed by the leadership of the governing NPP as its presidential candidate for the 2020 elections.

Delivering his acceptance speech during the event held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, the president expressed gratitude to the party leadership while underscoring that, throughout his political career this is the second time he has avoided contest. Once at the parliamentary level and now at the presidential level.

The president who has so far served three and a half years in the country’s high office also said, in spite of a much rather robust  economy he inherited from the previous government, he and his government through the implementation of politically motivated  policies has been succeeded in worsening the economic plights of Ghanaians.

The race between the NPP and NDC will be grounded on issues, with regard to capital investment, social interventions, per capita income, media freedom and social and economic stability of the country.

Currently thousands of workers of defunct banks are jobless, while depositors continue to cry over 50 per cent slash on their investment, whereas the other half is spread for the period of 5 years.

Three and half years into the governance of the new patriotic party, the country continues to witness massive infrastructural deficit while the public debt hikes to 236.1 billion.

Meanwhile, NPP government upon assumption of office inherited a generational debt of 124 billion. But has since hiked it to 236.1 billion cedi, without any capital investment to show for it.

However, the government of NPP can be credited with implementation of FSHS policy, which has seen an increased in the annual intake of students into various senior schools, although it is backed with series of challenges.

Flagship programs such as, planting for food and job, 1 District 1 factory, 1 village 1 dam and the famous 1 million dollar per constituency, remained “a carpet vision” not a realistic attainable policy, As government has failed to account for such campaign promise in 3 years of its administration.

despite damage to the economy,  he has however, called on all members of the party to get on board for the party’s campaign with the aim to win the 2020 elections, in order for his government to continue building the economy of Ghana.

the opposition national democratic congress (NDC), are currently campaigning around infrastructural development and economic stability the former president John Dramani Mahama completed before exiting power in 2016.

“Performance of both parties will be compared sector by sector, by the Ghanaian electorate to inform their decision who is worthy of the high office”.
