The former president of the republic of Ghana and founder of the PNDC/NDC, his Excellency Jerry John Rawlings has waded into the call for the electoral commission of Ghana to carry out its electoral process gearing towards election 2020 in a more consultative manner to avoid any form of undue suspicion.

When he took his turn to speak at the virtual durbar on Thursday, to commemorate the 41st anniversary of June 4th, the former president has asked Ghanaians to rally their support to the electoral commission to ensure free, fair and credible elections.

“One of the key institutions in our democratic discord from pre-colonial to modern Ghana is the protection of rights and choice. We must endeavor to deepen the spirit of consultative roses” he asserted.

“Our democracy was borne out of fire we must compassionately protect its flame” he added

Notwithstanding, he also charged the commission to carry itself as revered as established by the constitution and maintained by predecessors over the years, to ensure processes  leading to this year’s election, are done in consultation with stakeholders of the nation to prevent unnecessary suspicion and promote peaceful and cohesive society.

He added that, election is an event but building democracy that is free and peaceful society is a process. So events surrounding the new voter register must be thoroughly examined so we don’t undermine successes we have chocked as beacon of democracy in the whole of Africa.
