It came as a surprise to many Ghanaians when the president of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo reiterated that the electoral of Ghana can go ahead with its agenda to compile a new voter roll amidst controversy surrounding it.

Claims were made against the move by the commission to compile new voter roll and the president was urged to intervene to ensure calm and stakeholder engagement to ensure free, fair and credible election. However, Sunday’s night 10th address to the nation seems to shut the dreams of teaming Ghanaians calling for president’s executive order in the interest of peace and stability.

Yesterday, the president has stated that, the statutory mandated bodies such as the EC, NCCE and NIA, must continue with their operation, whiles ensuring safety protocols. He added that, those bodies were from unset exempted from the restrictions. However, he was quick to mention them during easing restrictions on bodies that were under siege by the restriction.

This came as worrying to some Ghanaians and opened door for further speculations, why the president would issue such a statement under such current condition being witnessed globally.

There are agitations by Ghanaians on the electoral commission deliberately trying to disenfranchised millions of Ghanaians from the 2020 elections due to some new voter regulations that seems to be inimical to the stability of the country. But it came as no worry to a human right lawyer who doubled as the president of the republic of Ghana.

The president took his time to address various statutory bodies to go ahead with their operation and ensure adherence to safety measure. In playing ‘devil’s advocate’ to that effect, the president stressed that, failure to comply with safety protocols, operation of culprit body shall be terminated and subsequent sanction applied.

Ghanaians continue to remain worried, as there is still uncertain the possible outcome of the electoral processes gearing towards 2020.
