The legislative representation for the people of Subin constituency, in the Ashanti region, Eugene Antwi, seem to be delighted in the leadership style of the former INEC commissioner of Nigeria, Prof. Attahiru  Jegar.

According to him, Jegar has brought leadership reforms that were accepted by all parties in Nigeria, which saw them through free, fair and transparent election ever in the history of Nigeria.

Speaking on good morning Ghana on Wednesday, the member of parliament says, it saddens him when parties in Ghana keep reiterating on possible rigging of election by a certain party each time there is election, instead of preferring for reforms that would permanently sanitized the electoral system to impose confidence in all and sundry.

He said, he is surprised why the term rigging eventually became domineering in a pervasive form in our political space, where everyone thinks someone will rig an election for another.

“why do we always think some one person can rig election?, we have seen parties in power lose election to  opposition party, we have all agreed elections are won at the polling station, so why do we think an election can be rigged?” he stressed.

Stressing that, the term rigging has never been part of our electoral lexicon since independent, and he is surprised why it is gaining root in our daily discuss.

“We all know what is good for the country and for our electoral sanity, but inherently, we are dishonest”. He fumed.

He charged Ghanaian politicians to contribute to better reforms and be vigilant at the polling station during election, instead of alleging of possible rigging each time there election.

“Nobody can come to subin and rig election, because am I am very vigilant with my team, and that is what everyone must do, I tell my agents 2 hours after polls if I don’t see my pink sheets, then you are a thief and I will call police for you” he stressed.

Reiterating that, parties must be concern on how to make their agents at various polling stations vigilant and proactive, instead of blaming the electoral commission for their failure.

“We are encouraging rigging, if we want to end rigging, then we must sit together and work towards reforms” he added.
